New Idea Manure Spreader Paddle Mounting Guide – Adding a Second Hole for Replacement Paddles

New Idea Manure Spreader Paddle Upgrade Guide: One Hole vs Two Hole Replacement Paddles

At the shop we have come across numerous owners of older New Idea manure spreaders that often run into a common problem when searching for replacement manure spreader paddles: many newer replacement paddles are built with an outside two-hole mounting design, while some older spreaders only have a single outside mounting hole on the beater support bracket/paddle.

At first glance, this can make it seem like the newer two-hole paddles will not work on your spreader. The good news is that having a one-hole mounting setup does not mean you are unable to install newer replacement paddles, as there is still a practical solution available for adapting many spreaders to work with two-hole paddle designs. The middle hole as its referred is not meant to carry the load of the paddle nor is it advised to just use that hole, both outside holes need to be used for bolting

Some New Idea Manure Spreaders Already Use Two-Hole Paddles

Certain New Idea manure spreader models already have a factory two-hole mounting pattern on the beater supports or tubes. If your spreader already has the correct mounting configuration, installing a newer two-hole manure spreader paddle may be a direct bolt-on replacement.

Many operators are surprised to find that their spreader is already compatible with newer replacement paddle designs.

Upgrading Older One-Hole New Idea Paddle Mounts

Many older New Idea spreaders originally came with a single-hole paddle mounting setup. In many cases, operators can:

  • Bolt the new paddle to the existing mounting hole
  • Mark the location for the second hole
  • Drill the additional mounting hole into the beater support or tube
  • Secure the paddle using both mounting points

This photo below shows a one hole system, the middle hole is not advised to be used as a single means of clamping that is why this is referred to as a single hole system:

This photo below shows a two hole system now after marking and drilling for a new bolt hole, notice the two outside holes that are present:

Why Upgrade To Two-Hole Manure Spreader Paddles?

Two-hole manure spreader paddles are commonly preferred because they can:

  • Improve paddle stability
  • Reduce twisting and movement
  • Spread force across two mounting points
  • Improve long-term durability in heavy spreading conditions

For high-use manure spreaders, the added support of a two-hole paddle design can help improve paddle retention and service life.

Common New Idea Models Using These Paddle Styles

Depending on beater configuration and mounting style, these replacement manure spreader paddles may fit or be adaptable to various New Idea manure spreader models, including:

  • New Idea 3622
  • New Idea 3632
  • New Idea 3639
  • New Idea 3647
  • New Idea 3700 Series spreaders
  • Additional New Idea models with similar beater tube configurations

Always verify paddle dimensions, mounting style, and hole spacing before ordering or modifying any equipment.

Important Notes Before Drilling A Second Outside Hole

Before drilling an additional mounting hole into a manure spreader beater support or tube:

  • Inspect the mounting area for wear or damage
  • Measure hole spacing carefully
  • Ensure the paddle seats flat against the support
  • Use proper grade mounting hardware
  • Confirm adequate material remains around the drilled hole
  • Heat and bend the support back if it has become twisted or bent over time

Every manure spreader application is different, so proper fitment and safe installation should always be verified before modification.

Keeping Older Equipment Working

Finding replacement wear parts for older manure spreaders can sometimes be difficult, especially as original paddle designs become harder to source.

Fortunately, many New Idea manure spreader owners may already have a practical upgrade path available. In some cases, simply drilling a second mounting hole can help operators upgrade to newer paddle styles and keep older spreaders running and productive for years to come.

At Northwest Iowa Parts, we believe in practical solutions that help keep equipment in the field and working the way it should.
