Why We Eliminated the Pinch Tube Design

One design difference is hidden beneath the rotating grip.

Many lighter-duty crank handles reduce the outside diameter of the tube underneath the grip. This manufacturing method is commonly referred to as a pinch tube design because the tube is mechanically reduced so the grip can be installed.

While that approach works, it also creates a smaller tube diameter in an area that still transmits torque every time the handle is used.

Our design takes a different approach.

Instead of reducing the diameter beneath the grip, we maintain the full outside diameter of the heavy-wall tubing through this section.

Why does that matter?

First, the tube maintains more material through a critical portion of the handle.

Second, the transition beneath the grip is smooth instead of necking down into a reduced section.

Finally, it reflects our overall design philosophy.

Rather than designing around the easiest manufacturing method, we design around long-term durability and operator experience.
